Chasing Dreams on Black Ridge April 2008
We are a family of three, cherishing our lives together here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where my family has lived for generations. At age 39, I am a colorectal cancer survivor, having had chemo-radiation and 3 surgeries in 2008, and systemic chemo for these first 6 months of 2009. God has been with us through this long journey. And our amazing community has reflected God’s love and grace in every imaginable way. Thank you all for everything, and may you be abundantly blessed with peace and joy.
When this journey started, I began writing emails to a group of friends as therapy and a cry for prayers. I have felt guilty for heaping so many emails into people’s inboxes and so now am going to try a new way of sharing our valleys and mountaintops.
I have cherished every single email update and have waited hungrily for each one! My email has certainly not been gummed up by your truly wise and deeply thought out words.
Shayley,
I am an adult however, your writings interest me very much. I can’t always come to visit you often, so your writings and pictures keep me up on who are your pets and how tater is doing. I miss and love him and hope you and jacqueline can teach him lots of great tricks.

As the media specialist/librarian at Floyd Elementary, I am so excited about having Shayley’s book in our library. I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing Shayley since she was in Kindergarten. She has always been an extraordinary student and this book further shows just how gifted a writer she truly is. I am so honored to know Shayley and have her as an integral part of our school.
Thanks again for the book.
