Tater, Coons & Possums

Hey folks,

I haven’t written in a while and have spent a while trying to figure out this new page while Lydeana is sleeping and can’t tutor me.

I had to write tonight because Tater has been going crazy outside barking the last couple of nights.   This evening Lydeana went to bed early due to her recent complications and I tucked Shayley in and came down to watch more Olympics.   It wasn’t long before Tater started a viscious “I gotcha” bark which prompted me into my boots to check it out.   I looked out the basement door where Tater seemed to be looking up at me while refusing to come in.  Looking up, I discovered a coon hanging from the brick wall over top of the door and my head.  I convinced Tater to come in and got a stick to pry down the coon hoping to avoid a huge fight that would end in Tater getting shredded.   The coon landed in the Holly tree and disappeared from sight as Tater slipped by me and made hot tracks after him.

I went out to see what transpired and looked up into the Holly tree, that also has a Cherry tree growing up through the middle, only to notice a possum hanging on for dear life (or possibly looking for some peace).    Walking around the tree to see what else had Tater riled there happened to be what I assume to be the same coon in the Holly just above the possum.   The first thing to hit my mind was a pair of mismatched fur gloves or a coon hat with a silver possum lining!

If it weren’t for my time constraints I would collect some hides to work with.   While in the basement I could also hear mice in the ceiling having found their little scats the last two days and some shredded Kleenex.  I set a couple of traps in the ceiling and started sharpening the smallest knife I own so I could skin them for thumb warmers.  You never know when gas will go up and you’ll have to hitch a few rides.   I think the varmints will have to be my newest hobby since they could also threaten the coming chickens.   I may have to teach Tater how to shoot and trap so I can get some sleep.

Got to go, I hear his siren song out there now.

Charlie
